Having grown up between Korean, Russian, and North American cultures, I often felt as though I existed between worlds. I did not fully belong anywhere. My artistic practice is rooted in the experience of being in-between. In my research, I examine how identity is shaped through space, perception, and reflection.
The works presented here were created using a variety of media. My interest in performance has grown significantly since 2021, largely due to my musical background. The integration of different media has been a decisive factor in this process. Elements such as sound, spatial design, installation, and video were used intentionally to support the thematic exploration of identity. The works are closely connected to the audience’s perceptions. They are not self-contained entities, but rather act as mediators. They enable a dialogue between the artist and the audience. The audience is not required to behave in any particular way. Instead, they are invited to adapt and to understand the perspectives of others.
The question of identity is ever-present in my work. My aim was to present a clear position on this subject and to encourage the audience to reflect on the same question. For all existing individuals, this question is of fundamental importance. The central question guiding this research is: Who am I, and who do I want to be? This research is concerned with the group of individuals being observed.
